Chair Belt for Sliders

WHAT IS THIS PRODUCT? The Chair Belt for Sliders – Front Fastening helps prevent patients from sliding down chairs to the floor. WHO IS THIS PRODUCT SUITABLE FOR? The patient can move their legs freely, twist around and even try to stand up. The Belt should still prevent them from sliding or standing. BRIEF INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE The main lap Belt is fitted around the patient and the chair and buckles together at the back. The two padded leg straps are then positioned under the patient’s legs, passed through the waist loops, wrapped around the frame of the chair at the pelvic area and then buckled up by the thigh, in front of the patient. They can be adjusted to size. The Belt is long enough to use on lounge chairs. However, on narrower chairs it may be beneficial to wrap the surplus webbing around the frame to shorten the webbing. This helps secure the Belt at the pelvic position on either side of the hips. If ladies are wearing the Belt, it is better for them to be wearing trousers rather than a dress. Patients should always be monitored when wearing any safety item. If the Belt or leg straps appear to be putting pressure around the patient, or under the legs, the patient should be repositioned to relieve this pressure. The Chair Belt for Sliders – Rear Fastening may be another option. This product has the leg straps buckle at the rear of the patient. This means the buckle can only be undone by carers, and not by the patient. WHAT IS THIS PRODUCT MADE FROM? Webbing, plastic buckles. GENERAL PUBLIC RESTRAINT AUTHORISATION LETTER If this product is for use in a private home, we require authorisation from a suitable person. This is to ensure it will be used correctly and safely by the family and/or carers, and that using it will not be dangerous. Examples of a suitable person who is able to sign the letter are: Occupational therapist; Physiotherapist; Clinical Nurse Manager; Registered Nurse; Doctor; or another suitably qualified person. If this product is for use in a care facility such as a hospital or aged care facility, then this letter is not required, because their staff are already trained in safe restraint use.
